Málaga is a port city of Andalusia, situated on the south of Spain, on Costa del Sol of the Mediterranean coast. As of 2006 Malaga has a population of 558,287 people. Málaga Airport is the main airport that serves the Costa del Sol region of Spain. It lies 8km on the southwest of Málaga and 5km on the north of Torremolinos. The airport has flights connecting to more than 60 countries in the world and as of 2006; it handled around 13 million passengers. The airport currently operates through two terminals. A third terminal beside the previous two is presently being made and is supposed to be inaugurated in 2008. Also a second runway is supposed to open by 2010. Passenger numbers have constantly increased from around 6 million in 1995 to 13,076,252 passengers by 2006. The busiest routes are those routes which network the countries of the European Union, especially to and from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Malaga airport is well-connected by public transport, with the Cercanías Málaga train reaching the airport directly from Malaga city center. Fuengirola is an airport coach linking to the Marbella bus station. There is also a number 19 bus operated by the EMTSAM to the Malaga Bus Station and also the City Center. The bus serves the airport from 6am - 12 in the night and is stationed from the arrivals section of both the terminals 1 and 2.
